Maxta And JME Link For A Grime Classic On “Born On Your Own”

South London’s Lewisham and member of the Mucky Wolfpack grime collective, MC Maxta called in Boy Better Know veteran, JME, for what seems to be a grime classic – “Born On Your Own”.

The song feels like a slight throwback to Maxta’s early days in the scene, bringing in a rapid-paced delivery on electronic, game console-styled beats. With years of experience in the game, he’s delivery sounds very clear, with plenty of punchlines. The song addresses the idea of being “born on your own, die on your own”, which means focus on yourself and on your actions only if  you want to see your profit -“ya, I got my money up, that’s grown”

JME bodied it. He recently confessed on Twitter, in a reply to a fan, one of the realist bars he’s wrote is on this tune: “i spend my mornings unsubscribing and letting insects out of my home” – I just love subliminals.
